Since moving into our house in Philadelphia this winter, we've gotten into the ritual of cooking big, elaborate breakfasts every Saturday. The ritual started one gray winter morning just after the move. We we're missing our favorite Brooklyn breakfast spot, Five Leaves, and dying for some Ricotta Pancakes with Honeycomb Butter, which, alone, are worth leaving your warm bed and trudging through slush to buy the ingredients for.
When we got home from the store, a dizzying scene unfolded in our kitchen as pancakes bubbled on the stove, eggs were cracked, bacon hissed, coffee percolated. By the time we set out our food, our kitchen was a mess, batter caked our clothes, and dishes were piled high in the sink. But as we sat down to our breakfast, worries of long to-do lists, looming boxes, and unhung shelves faded away -- our house started to feel like a home. Ever since, we've made a point to continue this ritual whenever we can. The breakfasts aren't always as elaborate, but what matters is just taking a moment to pause before delving into our hectic weekend. If you want to follow along, we'll be posting our breakfasts under #SaturdayBreakfastSeries on Instagram. What are your favorite weekend rituals?
